Acting Chief Justice Deepak Kumar Karki has convened an emergency meeting of the Judicial Council on Wednesday afternoon. According to a member of the Judicial Council, all the members have been informed that the meeting will be held at 1.30 pm.

"We have been informed that there is an emergency meeting at half past one," said a council member.

According to another member, the emergency meeting was called after a controversial audio recording involving Kathmandu Judge Rajkumar Koirala became public.

News24 Television has aired a 10-minute telephone conversation between former treasurer of Nepal Bar Association Rudra Prasad Pokhrel and District Judge Koirala of Kathmandu.

During the conversation, Advocate Pokharel offered Rs 100 million for bail of a former Civil Cooperative Chairman Ichchha Raj Tamang. He even tried to tempt by saying that suspended Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Jabra will be with them in this matter.

A member of the Judicial Council said, "A meeting has been called to discuss such a serious issue."
